away. She continued without finishing her sentence. "Now that we're divorced Rich hates my gutsalmost as much as I hate his. One thing we've always had in common is the ability to feel angerand not much else." She paused for a moment, as though contemplating the similarity. Then she glanced up and saw Chris watching her. D.J. cleared her throat and held up her hand. Two fingers stood up in a peace sign. "Secondthere wasn't any 'you and me' for him to be jealous of, even if he'd been around to see something that might have made him jealous, which he wasn't." She allowed her hand to fall back at her side, then turned to stare at the darkened cabin once again. "No, something else has set him off. And I'll bet this picture holds the key. This must be what they were looking for at your house and in the cabin. But now they want to kill us too. Probably because they think we've seen it and recognized Rich."
Something D.J. had said, and the way she'd said it, caught Chris's attention. He took a step closer, and his body brushed hers. She started, like a frightened doe, turning back toward him, her wide-eyed gaze meeting his. Her lips parted on a sigh, and he reached for her slowly so as not to frighten her further, then curled his fingers around the nape of her neck.
"What?" she whispered.
"You said there wasn't any us. Is there now, D.J.? Is there an 'us' now?"
She stared at him without blinking. He pulled her forward, bending to touch her parted lips with his. She moaned and leaned into him. He ran his
